This exciting event will teach you about bird species, flight patterns and bird-watching tips. Burnet is regarded as one of the best places to see vibrant wildflowers, and you don’t want to miss out on taking photos in the bluebonnets.

As stated on their website, the Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Society promotes the “study, conservation, enjoyment, and public awareness of birds and wildflowers, chiefly in the Highland Lakes area of the central Texas Hill Country.” Their annual appearance at the Bluebonnet Festival creates an exciting opportunity for everyone to learn about the wildlife and wildflowers that make the Hill Country teem with life in spring.woodpecker.png

The fun starts on Thursday, April 9 from 5 – 10 p.m. Come out for the Mighty Thomas Carnival Wrist Band Family Night. Then on Friday, April 10, join the event for the Highland Lakes Birding and Wildflower Show, the Mighty Thomas Carnival, the Burnet Bulletin Pet Parade and the live music kick-off and street dance. The festivities continue on Saturday, April 11 with the 5k Bluebonnet Fun Run, children’s activities, a bicycle decorating contest, a performance by Studio 29 Dance Centre and live music on the main stage. The Carnival is open again, and you can stop by Old West Town for the Burnet Gunfighter’s Shoot-Out.

The fun wraps up on Sunday, April 12 with contemporary praise and worship, arts and crafts vendors, the Bluebonnet Festival Doghouse Race in the Historic Square and the Wiener Dog Race. So bring your family and your four-legged pals, and get ready to have some major fun.
